Remember, child protection is everyone's responsibility.
At William Levick Primary School, all staff have a legal duty to report any concerns regarding a child's welfare, particularly if they believe a child may be suffering significant harm or potential abuse. We have robust safeguarding policies and procedures, including Child Protection, behaviour and e-safety, which you can find in our policies tab. We adhere to the guidelines set by Derbyshire County Council and the latest Keeping Children Safe in Education (KCSIE) published by the DfE.
We teach children how to stay save through our PSHE curriculum and E-safety lessons, to raise their awareness of staying safe on the internet. We also have additional sessions delivered by the NSPCC, police, school nurse and the Fire Service.
William Levick Primary School is a secure site with fences around the perimeter. We have a single-entry system into school, which is operated by the Office Assistant, allowing for them to see who is being let into school before actually doing so. Once inside, we run all necessary checks dependent on the visitor and their business with school.
Emotional well-being
We also take children’s emotional well-being very seriously and have a number of strategies and systems in school to also support this. This includes:
- a ‘What’s On Your Mind’ box in every classroom, so that children can post any worries they have anonymously if they so wish;
- a friendship bench if children are feeling sad and upset at break times;
- a buddy system for the new Foundation Stage children with the Y6 children in school;
- Mini Leaders, ran by Y5 children, to support children at lunchtimes;
- a very active effective School Council, with representatives from every year group
- a very effective transition for the Y6s as they progress to Secondary School.
From time to time, all children need additional help and support, so we also run a Positive Play programme in school for those children who need to access this.
