Primary School

Intent: At William Levick, we recognize the importance of nurturing the holistic development of our children, equipping them with essential life skills. We have implemented the PSHE Matters scheme, which encompasses twelve engaging learning modules taught over a rolling two-year period. Through these modules, we aim to empower our children to develop a positive sense of self, build healthy relationships, understand their responsibilities as individuals, and navigate the challenges of the modern world.

Impact: The PSHE Matters scheme has a profound impact on our children's personal, social, health and emotional development. We aim to equip children with the knowledge, skills, and attitudes necessary to make informed decisions in their lives. The 12 units are:

  1. Drug Education - including how to manage risk and peer influences
  2. Exploring Emotions - including how to recognise and manage feelings and emotions
  3. Being Healthy - including the importance of looking after our mental health
  4. Growing up - including the Sex Education element
  5. Changes - including loss
  6. Bullying Matters - including how to ask for help
  7. Being Me - including identity and community
  8. Difference and Diversity - including challenging stereotypes
  9. Being Responsible - including looking after the environment
  10. Being Safe - including online and offline
  11. Relationships - including what is a healthy relationship
  12. Money Matters - including enterprise

Implementation: At William Levick, we have a structured and comprehensive approach to implementing the PSHE Matters scheme, ensuring its effectiveness and relevance to our children. Key components of our implementation strategy include:

Age-Appropriate Content: The learning materials and resources used in PSHE lessons are carefully selected to be age-appropriate, ensuring that the content is suitable for primary school children.

Links to the Wider Curriculum: Connections are made between PSHE and other subject areas, such as science, physical education  and citizenship, to reinforce learning and provide a holistic educational experience.

We strive to create a nurturing and inclusive learning environment where our children can develop the essential skills and knowledge required to thrive in their personal and social lives. We are committed to equipping our children with the tools they need to make informed decisions, build healthy relationships, and contribute positively to their communities.
