Caring, learning, succeeding together

French

Intent: At William Levick, we aim to provide a relevant, vibrant, and ambitious foreign languages curriculum, using the Language Angels scheme of work. We foster high expectations and excellent standards to help pupils achieve their full potential in French. We aim to develop the four key language learning skills: listening, speaking, reading, and writing, and cover necessary grammar in an age-appropriate manner, in order to encourage lifelong language learning and enhance cultural understanding.

Impact: Learning French at William Levick serves as a foundation for understanding the world, fostering critical thinking, and promoting empathy, so children can develop a lifelong appreciation.

Implementation: We have designed a curriculum that aligns with the National Curriculum and encourages active participation, by utilising the Language Angels scheme of work and resources for all classes in KS2, progressively developing language skills through well-planned lessons.

Grammar: We teach grammar concepts gradually, building on previous knowledge, and provide a progression map and grammar grid for teachers' guidance.

Differentiation: We offer varied levels of stretch and differentiation, reading and writing activities, and opportunities for speaking and listening tasks. We ensure progressive learning and challenge by organising the units so there they increase in complexity. Children build on previous knowledge, recall and consolidate language, and formulate more sophisticated responses.
